EASA Part-66 and City and Guilds alignment project
The City & Guilds (C&G) 2675-03 Level 3 Diploma in Aircraft Maintenance course is designed to equip Fixed Wing Aircraft Maintenance Engineers or unlicensed Aircraft Technicians with role-specific knowledge. The course is aimed at those wishing to learn, develop and practise the skills required for employment and/or career progression in the military aeronautical mechanical/avionic engineering sector. In addition, this is dual certified to enable learners to work towards their EASA Part 66 Aircraft Maintenance Licence (Category A.1) theory elements. The qualification has been accredited by the Civil Aviation Authority (CAA) and is included in the Apprenticeship standard for Aircraft Maintenance Fitter/Technician.
The core of the design was to produce City & Guilds 2675-03 courseware, with key considerations, including cost-effectiveness and efficiency. City & Guilds 2675-03 is comprised of 14 units. Six units are mandatory with an additional four trade-specific units depending on the technical discipline to which the student has been streamed, be it Mechanical or Avionics. Besides theoretical elements contained within the units, there is also an emphasis on practical applications to reinforce the knowledge gleaned in the classroom.
Utilising the current EASA modular training notes belonging to Resource Group, the material is cross mapped to ensure correct alignment with the requirements of the City & Guilds syllabus, further subsidised with sourced material. From this, a set of student notes is produced to the required knowledge level that aligns with each of the C&G unit outcome assessment criteria.
In addition, PowerPoint presentations are produced using the clients provided PowerPoint template for each City and Guilds Unit as per the C&G Qualification Handbooks, ensuring they are sequenced by the outcome, assessment criteria and range/scope. As part of a continuous improvement ideology, the material is adapted to the customers’ needs. Utilising feedback not only from instructors but also the students, the instructional material is designed to enhance the student/instructor interaction. Difficult to understand subject areas are analysed, broken down and rebuilt in a step-by-step guide for the instructor to clearly articulate in the learning environment. Classroom exercises are developed to enhance the students learning and a set of formative assessments, issued by City & Guilds, simulate timed examination conditions to prepares learners for the end of unit summative assessments.
An assessment strategy is developed and includes the production of examination questions for centre devised examinations. For practical tasks, document listing resources and materials required to enable completion of the practical tasks at the client’s site is produced. To ensure conformity, City and Guilds Assessment Documentation and Guidance Material are completed for each practical assessment. A syllabus document is provided for each C&G Unit following client defined specifications. All deliverables meet the requirements of the C&G 2675-03. This enables the Client to train to exact standards and provide highly trained personnel for employment on military aircraft.
